It would be very helpful and courteous to review a recipe made EXACTLY the manner it is written. It is not beneficial at all to read how you rated your own recipes using another person'southward name. Marie, your recipe fabricated every bit written, is excellent. Thanks!

THIS IS Awesome. Boyfriend and I couldn't believe it! I modified the recipe based on other people's comments. Anybody was saying to add Montreal Steak Seasoning, which I didn't have. So I looked it up and information technology'due south basically comprised of pepper, salt, and paprica. For the rub i combined ane Tbsp each of kosher salt, crushed peppercorns (i crushed), and paprika. I besides added nearly 1 tsp. of garlic powder. This I rubbed on the meat and sprayed a fiddling olive oil over top. To the pot, i added 3 large chopped carrots, six or then small-scale reddish potatoes (chopped), an onion, and half a container of small fresh mushrooms. Additionally, I added ii bay leaves, nigh a tsp. of worshire sauce, and the onion soup mix along with the water. Didn't take celery. SUPER SPICE-A-RIFIC!!! Enjoy!

I take cooked a lot of roast in my day and this is the Just time it has come up out perfect! I didn't add any vegetables with information technology except for cutting an onion in one-half and setting it on summit of the roast for the concluding 3 hours of cooking time. I made mashed potatoes and green beans divide, just don't like my potatoes to taste similar anything except potatoes. I also whisked 2 teaspoons of cornstarch with 1/2 cup water and added to the au jus that I transfered to a sausepan. I boiled the au jus mixture for about 5 minutes, whisking often, for a wonderful brown gravy. I was tempted to not cook it as long as the recipe calls for, only please just let it cook and keep check on the liquid level. Roast cooked this way just melts in your mouth! Thanks for sharing your talent!

why practice people take a recipe and turn it into another totally differtn recipe using it as a review? Just create a new recipe.

This was fabulous. I took a few reviewers advice and soaked the roast in scarlet vino vinegar over night. I made a rub with pepper, common salt, lemon pepper and freshly minced garlic and and so browned the roast on all sides. I was using my mother-in-law's roaster and it didn't accept low, med and high so I set up it to almost 200 degrees for viii.5 hours. I added the onion soup mix, some onion, lots of garlic, carrots, some celery we needed to become rid of and two potatoes. We served it with Sky High Yorkshire Pudding (allrecipes.com) which was groovy! We besides had garlic mashed potatoes and an like shooting fish in a barrel greenish salad. This was an AT recipe and nosotros'll use it over again!

Great recipe, but I browned the meat on all sides afterwards seasoning the roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning prior to putting it in the slow cooker. This added neat depth of flavor to the meat and the finished gravy. I omitted the potatoes from the irksome cooker, and oven roasted them instead with olive oil, common salt/pepper and whole garlic cloves during the last hour of cooking the roast. A crispy contrast to the luscious gravy. My family loved this meal!
12/05/2003
Very, very expert--the only thing I did dissimilar is added a couple beef bouillon cubes and more water then that I could brand lots of gravy. I even chopped upward the left over roast put it back in the slow cooker and made a stew with it--information technology was great! Thank you lot Marie!
08/12/2011
I followed the recipe exactly and was a chip disappointed. I had loftier hopes starting out simply the cease result was rather bland. Don't get me wrong, the meat was overnice and tender, the veggies yummy (a little mushy, but a good mushy), and at that place was plenty of gravy. Nonetheless it needed flavor, also searing the meat with salt and pepper didn't exercise anything for it. What I would do next time is sear the meat with Worcestershire, olive oil, and a lilliputian butter. And so after I put the meat into the crock-pot with veggies on meridian of the meat. I would deglaze the pan with a mix of either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon and beef stock. So I would pour the liquid with pan drippings into the crock-pot. I'm not sure if I would utilize the onion soup mix or not, I remember that would depend on the users personal preference.

Really enjoyed this, my construction working fiance & his friends practically inhaled this! I did replace the water with beer and added a little beefiness boullion... my bloke was overjoyed to detect a new manner to get beer into his arrangement and it gave it an astonishing flavor! There were no leftovers at all.

I used this every bit a starting point to learning how to make a keen roast. The first time I followed the recipe. The second time I tweaked it after reading the reviews. Now, I have created a masterpiece. This is how I practise it:Make certain you use a Chuck roast first of all. And then, brown the meat with salt, pepper, garlic/onion as desired. Then, place in tiresome cooker. Deglaze the pan with a little beef broth and then add it and addtional can to slow cooker (full 2 cans of beef broth). Cascade 1 envelope of dry onion soup mix on top, and 1 tBLsp of Worceshire sauce on tiptop of the meat. Melt on low for 8hrs. After half-dozen hrs. add quartered blood-red potatoes and carrots to the boring cooker. When done it volition be falling apart so remove from ho-hum cooker carefully. Brand gravy by using broth and flour/cornstarch/water mixture and heating to just boiling in divide saucepan stirring constantly till desired thickness is acheived. Yum!
04/28/2013
To all the reviewers that said "It was delicious, But I modified the recipe by adding this or irresolute this". Once you modify anything near an original recipe, you are no longer cooking the recipe but a new recipe that volition sense of taste nothing like that one.
09/29/2008
For those of yous that want a thicker gravy, add flour and onion (for flavor) when you are browning the meat. Browning the meat gives information technology a nice color and there will exist no additional steps at the end for a thicker gravy. I observe that beef broth gives a "tinny" taste. Using chicken goop lets the taste of the beef smoothen through. I use chicken broth along with a overnice dry ruby-red vino. Call up that when calculation wine, practice not add a wine that is as well fruity or has been "oaked" (commonly older wines). The long cooking time will concentrate whatever fruit, oak or other flavors that the wine has. Also when adding vegetables, add them about halfway through the cooking time and NOT in the beginning. Succulent!

Fall autonomously TENDER! I've been making this recipe for many years (earlier this was fifty-fifty added). There's no demand to brownish roast get-go! No demand for the salt! THE ONION SOUP MIX HAS Enough SALT IN IT ALONE! Mind- Just throw the roast in the crock, simply place carrots around information technology, (Use the cut up potatoes for mashed, it only goes much better with the tender roast!)encompass elevation of roast with onion soup mix and and then TOP WITH Foam OF MUSHROOM SOUP. You'll see it's but fantabulous!
04/15/2009
In combination of several suggestions in the reviews, this was just the MOST DELICIOUS AND TENDER roast I take ever tasted (information technology was also my commencement time making 1)! Here's what I did... I sliced a 2½ lb boneless beef chuck pot roast into 4 large serving pieces. It didn't have much fat so no trimming was necessary. In a deep dish, I rubbed all sides with steak seasoning, fresh ground black pepper, coarse kosher salt, and nigh 2+ tablespoons ready-to-use minced garlic then poured about ane+ tablespoon balsamic vinegar and Worcestershire sauce on meridian turning the meat to coat. While that sabbatum, I sliced upward a xanthous onion and then browned the meat on all sides with the onion in extra virgin olive oil. Transferred the meat (including all the juices in the pan) to my slow cooker, added one cup beefiness broth, ane+ tablespoon minced garlic, ¼ bundle of onion soup mix (leftover from making dip), fresh ground pepper, garlic salt, oregano, marjoram, thyme, and paprika. Covered and set up to depression for 6-8 hours. But most 2 hours earlier information technology was done, I added whole baby carrots, chunks of celery, ruby onion, and mushrooms. Instead of adding potatoes, I made mashed potatoes and brown gravy from the juices. The original recipe is a adept "base". Just exist creative and use your spices!
03/17/2011
I have prepared my pot roasts this fashion quite a few times now, and am finally getting around to reviewing the recipe! Sometimes I add a teaspoon or ii of Better than Bouillon beefiness base, a clove or two of minced garlic, or use beefiness goop rather than h2o, simply the basic recipe ever remains the same, and always turns out delicious. I had planned on making this today, actually. I bought my beef in bulk from a local farmer who raises grass-fed cows for the beginning time ever, and was so excited to popular my get-go grass-fed roast into the crock pot this morning! I defrosted it, unwrapped it, and then realized information technology was actually a 7-bone chuck roast. Not a boneless chuck roast. I had already defrosted it, so I went ahead and browned it, then tried to stuff information technology in my crock pot. No such luck. Information technology wasn't going to fit. Then, it sat in my refrigerator in my covered roasting pan "marinating" in the onion soup mix and water all solar day while I did some enquiry on how to melt a 7-bone roast in the oven. Just in instance anyone wants to use this type of cut, or finds themselves in a like demark, here'due south what I did: broil covered at 280 for 4 hours, adding the veggies at the last hour. The result was fall-off-the-bone, slice-with-a-fork, melt in your mouth tender and absolutely succulent! Crock pot is good, but this method produced a roast as equally expert. The next "variation" I'1000 going to try is to brand my own onion soup mix from a recipe also here on AllRecipes. Can't wait!
02/15/2011
Great base recipe! I took the advice of others and browned my meat in olive oil but starting time I rubbed it with Montreal Steak Seasoning on all sides. I used a 1lb purse of carrots and most 5 blood-red potatoes - skins left on, whole onion - sliced, and two stalks of celery. I used two cups of water and boiled it on stove with 2 beef boullion cubes. I added the onion soup mix to the humid beef broth and poured mixture over meat and veggies in crock pot. I also added about 1/4C worcestershire sauce. I added some garlice pepper & garlic salt to the crock pot. Cooked on low for ix hours and meat was falling apart! I removed the roast from the crock pot and cut it up and so added corn starch mixed with cold water to the crock pot to thicken upward the juices into a gravy. Everything was perfect!!
06/30/2010
adding my ii cents! I did change it based on other reviews...2 pkgs of o.s.m instead of 1, instead of water I used a half cup of beefiness broth and a one-half cup cooking wine, and I also threw in a can of cream of mush. soup....I know the indicate is to go abroad from a soup mix (foam soup that is) but I thought it was the best roast that I take e'er fabricated!!! Oh one more matter...I omited the potatoes and made mashed instead! I know that people sometimes accept something to say nigh people rating a recipe after they have added thier own tweeks, but isint it what its kind of about?? getting ideas from others and tweeking them to adjust our own taste? I d k...Simply saying requite this a try! It is awesome! My veggies were perfectly cooked as directed in the recipe!
12/26/2010
MMM.... MMM.... MMM.... yummy! Yeah that sum'southward it up. Stop reading all the reviews and just try it... your gonna love it.

This is an old standby at my house. my mother fabricated this many times while I was growing upwardly, and information technology was one of my favorite meals. My married man now loves this pot roast! I don't always brown the roast showtime, depending on how rushed I am that morning time. The last time I made this, I peeled and sliced the potatoes the night before and stored them in a ziplock purse with water. I placed the raw beef, seasonings, and onions in a crockpot liner sealed with a twist necktie and popped it in the fridge. The side by side morning, I but had to untie the crockpot liner and identify it in the pot. I tuckered the potatoes and opened a pocketbook of peeled baby carrots to add to the pot. Like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious!
10/27/2007
Used a 3.5lb rump roast instead and information technology worked out amazingly!! The meat but fell apart and was full of season. I did alter the recipie as others suggested. Seasoned the beef with ground pepper & garlic common salt. Added a can of beef broth and a few dashes of worcestershire sauce to recipe. I also added mushrooms during last 4 hours of cooking. At the end, took out all the veg and thickend the sauce with flour. Used more potatoes then what recipe called for and omitted the celery. Best roast I e'er fabricated!! Very tastey.
x/14/2005
This is a staple in my firm...nosotros LOVE it! I employ garlic salt and pepper, and Lipton Beefy Onion soup mix. I also use infant carrots and sweetness potatoes instead of regular potatoes. I add a tin can of beef goop to ensure in that location is enough liquid to encompass the meat. Cooks on Low for 10-12 hrs, and is just perfect! I brand "pot roast burritos" with the leftovers...married man loves those! :) An Like shooting fish in a barrel, no-hassle, tasty pot roast!!! *note - shut all of your sleeping room doors when you turn on the crock or else your rooms will odor like pot roast for days...)
10/28/2007
I have been doing pot roast like this for years. The bonus is, brand an actress roast at the aforementioned time, or utilize leftover roast and goop left in cooker for beef and noodles, or chop leftover beef and veggies advertizement back to broth, add frozen mixed veggies, chopped cabbage, and a little V8 juice and you take delicious homemade beef vegetable soup!!!!!!!!!
01/21/2010
WOW!!! Allow me tell you, I take tried to brand pot roast several times already simply I gave up because the meat ended up being dry. I used stewing beefiness, rump roast, and other cuts. Now I know YOU MUST Employ CHUCK ROAST...that's what makes this recipe super! I took the advice of other reviewers and rubbed the meat with Montreal Seasoning merely I did not dark-brown it--just put it in the crockpot. I besides used a tin can of beef broth instead of h2o. I added vegetables half style through and used red potatoes considering information technology's non equally starchy as white. My son said the beefiness just melts in your mouth! Tasty, succulent and great comfort food! I've e'er wanted a adept beef roast/stew recipe and now I accept it! Thank you, Marie, for sharing and telling us to use the correct cut of beefiness!

I was feeling a footling fifty's homey and wanted to feed my family unit something lumberjack hearty, so pot roast was an easy determination. Yet, never having made it before, I wanted to try this recipe since it promised two important things: moist + juicy. I layered the bottom of the crock pot with babe carrots, halved celery stalks and quartered red potatoes. And so, I combined the onion soup mix with i can of beef goop and poured information technology over all. The two.v lb roast was next. I rubbed it with minced fresh garlic, pepper and common salt, then gave it a quick sear in olive oil. The roast and then joined the veggies in the crockpot, and the remaining olive oil + pan juices were poured over all. Our dinner cooked for 14 hours on low, which in the stop, would accept been better at 12 hours. All the same, it was delicious! Our veggies weren't mushy at all, the savory onion taste had thoroughly captivated into everything, and in that location wasn't even a demand to brand gravy. Next fourth dimension though, I'll make the potatoes separately. I thought they took away too much of the flavor, and volition add lots more carrots + celery, and simply a touch of water to finish upwardly with more than juice at the end. This tasted much amend the second day as leftovers, but the meat hasn't lost any of its autumn apartiness that my family unit loves. Would definitely make this again with a few tweaks.

My 87 year old Dad prefers hot meals for supper even in the summer. I made this crockpot meal to avert heating up the house. Considering information technology was merely him and me, I only used a 2 pound chuck roast. Next time I'yard making a bigger one. This was fabulous! Dad raved about it and be both wished nosotros had more than leftovers. A very piece of cake but absolutely succulent meal!
02/24/2014
Really loved the roast. It was tender, juicy and cut with a fork. Even so, I made a mistake. I used both the dry onion soup mix and vegetable broth. I should accept used 1 or the other. Had I added extra common salt, it would take been way too salty. Adjacent fourth dimension I brand this, and I admittedly WILL brand it again, I'll take intendance to spotter the salt content. I'd much rather add together more to my plate than take chances the dish beingness over salty. And I did add actress carrots and potatoes. With a 3 pound chuck roast, I added at least half-dozen nice size potatoes and 2 pounds of carrots. Information technology was a terrific meal, served with squeamish hot biscuits.
12/15/2008
Very tasty roast. Quick notes: 1/two the soup mix, it tin brand it way too salty (add maple syrup to cut of need exist), sear with steak seasoning, de-glaze with cherry-red wine and add together to the slow cooker. Worcestershire works well (don't over do it though or y'all are back to the salty problem). Toss in a bay leaf and y'all are good to get. Have tried this a few times and am constantly tweaking, but follow other suggestions and add your ain flair and you volition exist laughing all the way to the dinner table.
03/22/2011
This was my first pot roast EVER, and it was and so like shooting fish in a barrel! I've made it twice, and I've ever used a roast that was less than 3 lbs. I used beefiness goop instead of water and threw in tons of extra veggies. I also took the communication of some of the other reviews and added Worcestershire sauce and used a Montreal Steak rub on the meat before browning. I've left this roast to cook for upwards to 10 hours on low, and information technology's turned out great both times!
12/fourteen/2008
add 1/4 cup red vino, 8 oz. mushrooms, four cloves garlic, and fourteen oz. tin can beefiness broth. Thicken gravy with a 2 oz. brown roux.
x/25/2008
A very good basic slow cooker roast. After reading reviews, I made a few changes...I inserted slivered garlic into roast; browned the roast on all sides, then removed to the irksome cooker. I browned an additional onion in the skillet, then deglazed the pan with 1 cup of ruby-red wine, instead of adding water. I added 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, the soup mix, then poured it over the roast. I cooked on high for four hours, added the veggies, then cooked another 4 on low. My entire family loved information technology. Next time, I'll chocolate-brown sliced mushrooms to add together to the mix!
12/21/2011
Great elementary and tasty recipe!!
07/13/2010
I just have to say; why would anyone ruin a good tasting dish with that awful onion mix. It's so imitation an salty and overpowering.
01/thirty/2012
This was melt in your rima oris delicious! I used a 2.v lb chuck and permit information technology get for 9-10 hours. It was falling apart and was perfect! I, similar other reviewers used depression sodium beef goop. I made up my own rub and used that before browning it in the pan (Kosher table salt, fresh ground pepper, ruddy pepper flakes, paprika, and garlic pulverization). I made a gravy from the leavings in the crock pot and that was delicious as well (Just the juice/broth with a cornstarch/water mixture -- added some salt and pepper). I also used Yukon Gold potatoes. Those or red potatoes are actually best for this kind of affair. They agree together better than Russet. I just ate some leftovers for lunch and they were but as good as last nighttime. Mmmmmmm!
05/05/2013
Excellent recipe. I added several cloves of garlic, ii cups blood-red wine instead of 1 loving cup water, spiced 3.3 lb chuck with Montreal spice before browning it, added bay leaves, used the onion mix, doubled potatoes and carrots but did not add them until one-half way through. I also ran out of time so I cooked it for five+ hours on high. Everyone loved it!
11/27/2013
If its cooked too long the veges volition be mushy and the roast will fall apart so much it's almost like soup! Adding the veges half way through leaves a tastier pot roast that isn't mush! peachy flavor with the soup packet!
09/17/2006
Yum - what nifty comfort food! I used a smaller roast (ii.five lbs) so it was really washed in 5 hours. Equally the meat rested before carving, I strained the vegetables from the juice and stirred in a slurry of cornstarch on the stovetop. Afterwards humid a couple of minutes, I had a thick succulent gravy to cascade over the repast. I highly recommend serving dinner rolls alongside to sop up the gravy. Definitely a exercise-over recipe in this business firm!
10/28/2008
I made this roast yesterday in my new crock pot and wow it was sooo good. I browned a iii.5 lb chuck roast on the stove in a little extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper then boring cooked it with the residue of the ingredients for 5.5 hours on depression and information technology fell autonomously. I used red skinned potatoes which I think next fourth dimension I will put in an hour after everything else. Oh yeah, I substituted beef broth for the water. With the left over roast I shredded it and added Sweet Baby Rays bbq sauce and my married man and I had it on hamburger buns this night for dinner. Thanks for a slap-up recipe Marie!
01/22/2014
I've been using this recipe for years. I'grand a niggling surprised past the review that said it turned out tasteless. You can add your own touches to suit your gustatory modality, as I have from time to time but yous tin't lose with this basic recipe. It has ever come out a winner.
11/13/2010
This was my very first time making a pot roast, and it turned out great! I rubbed the chuck roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning and garlic powder and browned it in olive oil, as others had suggested. I cooked it on Loftier for 5 hours, adding the veggies in during the last hr (then they didn't turn to mush). Yummyyyy!!!
03/12/2009
FABULOUS!! Information technology took simply 20 minutes to prep! The only things I changed were (1) browned the meat before putting information technology in the crock pot and (2) I used a small purse of baby carrots instead and (3) I seasoned the meat with common salt, pepper, & garlic powder before cooking. Information technology cooked from 10am to vii:30pm and it was perfect. Only as good as my moms. I besides made this recipe another time and instead of using the onion soup mix I used McCormick's Slow Cooker Savory Pot Roast Seasoning..came in a pouch like taco seasoning. Just mix with ane cup h2o and pour over the meat & veggies. It was good as well!!
12/21/2006
This potroast using the slow cooker is keen. Before I brown the roast, I ordinarily glaze it with a sparse layer of flour. It helps the browning and also adds to the gravy.
12/12/2005
Wonderful, elementary comfort food. I used a three.5 lb chuck and pressed Montreal seasoning into the beef prior to browning. I added beefiness stock instead of h2o, a couple glugs of red and white wine (recall french onion soup), and a can of stewed tomatoes. I omited the potatoes, and served mashed on the side. I made a gravy of a couple cups of the broth. Afterwards x hours on low this was tender and delicious! Thank you!
02/09/2013
This is an accented FAVORITE pot roast recipe--with a few modifications. The meat is e'er ridiculously tender, total of flavor, and tastes astonishing! The changes we made are pretty unproblematic-- I utilize 1 or 2 cans of beef broth instead of the 1c h2o (depending on the size of roast, 3.5lbs+ 2 cans, less than 3lbs 1can) I flavor the meat with either a montreal steak seasoning or some other seasonings nosotros accept handy (garlic salt, onion powder, pepper, mayhap some paprika, whatsoever) and then sear in either a small amount of balsamic vinegar or olive oil. I like lots of vegetables so nosotros double the vegetables and add one-half at the beginning (mushy vegetables as a result) but the other half a few hours before the end so they are cooked simply not mushy (this is why i add the actress broth since i take lots of extra veggies). I have likewise used the beefy onion dry soup mix a few times but really couldn't tell much difference between normal onion soup mix--so i utilize whatsoever is on paw.
ten/thirteen/2008
Very tender and flavorful. And then I would not terminate upwards with mushy veggies I put onions on bottom of cooker, added meat(after browning), soup packet, 1 loving cup water and 1 cup beefiness goop and cooked that on high for ii hours and low for ane hr before adding potato chunks and baby carrots and cooking on low some other three hours. Perfectly tender meat which was not falling apart and sliced nicely and the veggies were soft but not mushy. Also makes succulent gravy.
01/27/2010
Easy, piece of cake, easy! And the meat was and so good. I seasoned the meat with Montreal Steak seasoning and dusted with flour (used a chuck roast). Started it cooking in the AM with but the liquid (I added just a little more), soup mix, celery, onion and some garlic. I added the carrots, potatoes a couple hours before information technology was done. The meat cruel apart and had a nice flavor to it, the veggies were cooked well non mushy and the gravy was and then yummy. Super and easy definitely a keeper!
01/xviii/2009
I've tried this recipe for the offset fourth dimension in Dec and information technology has go one of my favorite. Taking several advices from other Cooks who reviewed this recipe, I completely substitute water with beef broth, add the vegetables about 3/iv the way afterwards the meat, and instead of table salt and pepper to gustatory modality the meat, I use a seasoned salt.
09/12/2006
What a great recipe!! I played with it a little bit & used other reviewer's ideas. I rubbed meat tenderizer, garlic powder, course ground pepper & crushed red pepper on it before I browned it. Used a can of beef broth, parcel of onion soup mix & beefy onion soup mix, worcestershire sauce, fresh mushrooms, carrots, celery & potatoe. Kept adding a little fleck of salt, pepper & crushed red pepper every bit information technology cooked. It was fall apart-melt in your mouth tender with a little boot to it! Everyone loved information technology.
11/19/2003
Great recipe. For a beefier flavor, I used a cup of canned beefiness broth, instead of the water, and a nuance of Worcestershire sauce. This was a great dinner. I just threw it in the crockpot around two, and since my roast was about half the size called for, it was done around 7. Thanks for the recipe : )
03/xix/2007
This was sooooo expert! I did rub the roast with seasonings and a piddling flour before I browned on both sides. I besides used 1 cup beefiness broth and 1/two cup of water. I made a little gravy out of pan drippings and added at last minute to thicken. Volition definitely be cooking this one a lot. Thanks.
03/xi/2012
Family really liked it. Seasoned chuck roast with salt, onion powder, garlic pulverisation, mustard and a little cayenne. Seared in skillet on all sides. Placed in crock pot for 6 hours. Instead of water used chicken goop and added two bay leafs. Didn't add together onion or celery considering we didn't have any and we didn't miss it. Added my potatoes 2 hours before it was done, carrots and fresh dark-green beans one.5 hours earlier washed and and so scattering of mushrooms 15 min before serving. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Veggies were not mush and had neat flavor. Only enough left for hubby adjacent solar day and he didn't listen eating it at all.
05/07/2007
I made this recipe this night and it was the all-time roast we have ever had (so my hubby put it):) I read the reviews earlier cooking information technology and took the advice of some of the cooks. I used beef goop instead of water I added garlic and monteral steak seasoning. My roast was simply about 2 one/ii pounds only I allow it cook for 11 hours and it was better than e'er earlier. The vegtables were falling apart along with the meat. Thank you for the recipe and all the inputs too.
04/28/2013
I just want to say that yes, y'all need to use Chuck Roast, and other than any spices yous want to add together, all I accept ever done to have a perfect roast is to put the roast in the crockpot WITHOUT browning, and I don't add vegy'due south to the pot. This fashion, you don't need to add any liquid. I add together the onion soup mix and maybe some extra onions, but that'southward it. Very basic. I cook it on high for four to five hours. Done! It but falls apart...love it, dear it, beloved it!
03/22/2010
I browned the roast 1st & then cooked the onions in the aforementioned pot before adding to the crockpot. I used beefiness broth instead of the water & increased it to 2 cups. Absolutely succulent!
03/ten/2014
Awesome Marie! I had a six pound chuck roast so I adjusted the recipe for 12 servings. Used red potatoes, pare on, quartered. Everything was delicious. Had meat left over so have cut the meat into one inch cubes. Threw that into the crockpot with a mix of dry onion soup, water and cream of mushroom soup. Volition throw all that on top of flat egg noodles tonight. Walla, beefiness stroganoff! Thank you for sharing your recipe. Cook on!
01/22/2003
This was unproblematic to set up and very adept. My two teens LOVED information technology. The gravy is more "au jus" so it can be sopped up with bread. For leftovers, I shreaded the meat and it was fifty-fifty better. Instead of just using salt and pepper when I browned the meat, I used a season all type of seasoning and the flavour was total and rich. Definately a keeper.
02/18/2009
This was really skilful and I knew information technology would be. I did add a cup of red wine and a can of gilt cream of mushroom for thicker gravy simply I know it would accept been fine without it.
04/28/2011
delicious! i browned the meat as stated and that made all the difference in the fashion it came out (as opposed to how i used to boring cook information technology before). thanks for the recipe
09/19/2000
This was the first time I have always made a roast in the slow cooker, and it was oh-so-easy! And, it was very expert! I used infant carrots and new potatoes (quartered)and it was prepare to get in but a few minutes! My four year old daughter loved it!
11/20/2013
This is the recipe from the Lipton soup mix box. Has been in that location forever! I don't like the way the veggies are overcooked in this recipe. It is expert but at that place are improve. Good for novice cooks.

I've used this recipe many, many times, just have made several changes to it. I like to coat a couple of sides of the roast with Grillmates steak seasoning (very peppery and has common salt), and I also splash some worcestershire sauce on it the night before and stick it in the fridge. The next morning, I sear the sides on the pan (with a little olive oil). I also use beefiness broth (or craven goop, whichever I happen to have at home) instead of water. I also use minor red potatoes and put them in whole. I cut all of my veggies in large chunks (onion is quartered, carrots in large chunks, etc.) For herbs/seasoning, I also add some thyme and rosemary and 4-6 cloves of minced garlic. Delicious!

Followed the recipe every bit shown....just like my mom used to make information technology :)

I made this for dinner this by Sunday. It was extremely easy and the meat was cook in your mouth moist. I felt however that it lacked some flavour. I call up next time I will add some worcestershire sauce to it. I volition definitely make this once more though, thanks.

This was wonderful pot roast! I used the Montreal Steak Seasoning and browned the meat ahead of time, and boy was that tasty! It added and then much season. And I think browning the meat ahead of fourth dimension seals in some of the moisture so that the roast is extra moist. I likewise used a can of beef goop instead of water. Yum!

I impressed my parents with this one. We all loved it - very moist and tender - not overcooked. It was proficient for leftovers every bit well. I take a smaller, older crock pot, so I had to cut the roast (most four lbs.) into two chunks, then pile the veggies effectually information technology. After the beginning meal, I cut up more veggies and dull-cooked them in the leftover juice so that I would have enough to go with the rest of the roast - excellent leftovers. Besides, once y'all refrigerate, the next day y'all tin skim off the congealed fatty to reduce fatty content. I liked the recipe equally an like shooting fish in a barrel and tasty style to become some nutritional veggies and cobweb - carrots, onions and celery.

But fabulous!

Easy and extremely delicious! I added extra carrots and potatoes as I have a large slow cooker. My married man loved this dish.

Followed the recipe with one exception. Before browning roast, I tied it. Information technology cooked slap-up and later on removing cording, sliced and plattered the meat and vegs. Served with buttered noodles for those who wanted them and also had mixed green Salad.

This was incredibly delicious. I used a three-pound chuck roast (which was fatter than I expected) and browned it on all sides. After I put the roast in the dull cooker, I looked at the bits in the pan and decided to deglaze it with a little (maybe 3-4 Tbsp) balsamic vinegar. Next I poked four peeled and smashed garlic cloves in the roast and poured the thickened balsamic on it. Then I put a large sliced white onion on pinnacle and sprinkled the onion soup mix over that. Finally, I poured the water over everything and put information technology in the refrigerator. Around midnight, I took information technology out of the refrigerator and put it in the cooker on low. When I woke up at 7, I added 3/iv pound of infant carrots and another large white onion (sliced). Later about some other hour, I noticed the roast was falling apart, so I took information technology out and covered information technology with foil while everything else cooked another ii hours. Then I tuckered off the liquid and let it split up (considering my roast was and then fatty). I skimmed off as much of the fat and put the roast, carrots, and onions back in the pot, followed by the skimmed liquid and left it on warm until it was ready to serve. The roast was fork tender and full of flavor. I served it with rice, carrots, and onions. I look forward to eating the leftovers. I will make this once again! Thank you for sharing, Marie.

This was excellent.Showtime pot roast I've always fabricated, chose a marbley chuck roast as directed. Replaced the water with the beefiness goop. I also added garlic and a little extra onion soup for fear information technology wouldn't have enough season, but I didn't need all that, the original recipe would have been totally fine. I think next time i'll just make it as is with diluted beefiness broth. I live solitary and so making big things like this, I need to be sure I tin eat information technology. And I did! Vegetables were perfectly done and yummy as well!
04/25/2014
Extremely EASY and delicious I followed Lyrica42 recommendations and served upwardly with some fresh sourdough breadstuff - perfect condolement food
11/16/2013
I've made this recipe a dozen times or more. It's perfect every bit is. No need to modify anything!
03/31/2014
I made this and used beef broth instead of the h2o and no celery because I didn't have any. Information technology was he best roast I have e'er made. My hubby agreed and the kids ate it upwardly and had 2nd and 3rds. "Mom, this is the best dinner ever."
03/xviii/2014
I cooked the pot roast without the potatoes and carrots. I did put in the onion and took a few garlic cloves and put them in the roast. Information technology is the best I take ever made!
06/15/2011
Delicious! I rubbed the roast with ocean salt, cracked pepper, marjoram, thyme and paprika, and then dusted with flour before browning. Also, used almost twice the amount of potatoes and carrots and added a little more water and 3 cloves of garlic. Just needed to add a trivial table salt. Might utilize a vegetable stock base next time.
11/02/2008
I made this for dinner tonight and got rave reviews from my husband and step son! The roast was tender and moist. I didn't use the onion soup, but used beef bouillon dissolved in water instead. Browned in skillet w/a tad bacon grease black pepper, sea table salt, onion pulverisation before putting in ho-hum cooker. Used the aluminum foil assurance to support the roast in cooker. I used the juice from the roast to make gravy; cooked potatoes, carrots and celery stalks at the terminate of the cooking time for the roast. Yummmmmmm Yummmmmmm!
03/14/2010
YUM! I used this recipe for my offset pot roast e'er, and it was delish!! I added the potatoes halfway through cooking, per other reviewers' communication. Also used one can of beef broth and a fiddling garlic; otherwise, I made the recipe every bit is. I cooked it on high for about six hours and it was perfect! And one tip* I used the crockpot liner numberless that y'all buy in the grocery store near the ziplock baggies, and information technology made make clean up Then much easier! Didn't alter the taste or compromise the flavor a bit! I will be making this recipe for years to come up.
10/17/2013
This recipe was very easy to follow and it turned out dandy. I didn't accept eight hours so I put information technology on high for six hours and it was delish. I'm sure it would accept been very good at 8 to ten on the low setting. I didn't chop upwards the carrots or onion. I only made big huge chunks because I was afraid they would be mushy if I cut them to small they turned out amazing. I put whole cerise potatoes on the height of all of it and they were just wonderful besides. I will CERTAINLY practise this recipe again. It'south piece of cake to make and has only a few bones ingredients which was a big plus. I don't like having to go to the grocery to buy some expensive condiment or spice that I will never use again. Thank you for a wonderful meal.
01/20/2015
So tasty! Turns out perfect every time! I similar using red potatoes instead of russet, and those don't become overcooked. Or sometimes I simply leave the potatoes out and brand mashed potatoes instead. Just utilize half a packet of the mix. One is likewise much! I employ beef broth instead of water if I have it, I like information technology much more that mode. Don't employ broth and a whole package- it will be way too salty!
02/sixteen/2014
Succulent!
02/07/2009
No need to brownish the roast (I accept washed it both means). I used my medium size crock pot westward/ a 3# boneless Chuck Roast, rubbed information technology with (Red Robin Seasoning &) sprinkled w/ Salt & Pepper. Put 1/2 bundle of Onion Soup Mix on it, poured 1 cup hot water, added 3 lg potatoes & as many infant carrots I could even so allowing 1-2" clearance from meridian of crock as it is Important you don't overfill your crock pot for proper cooking. (Makers' advise on filling it 75% full.) I cooked on Loftier for v.5 hours so turned it downwardly to Low for the last 2 hours.... ~Wonderful Aroma ....TO Die FOR!! 2ND-Time-NOTES: Used Beef Goop instead of water (about two cups), did non brown roast, used bag of fingerling potatoes & cooked on LOW for 10 1/ii Hours. YUMMY!
04/22/2014
Followed the recipe merely did use Montreal Steak Seasoning & added ii cloves of garlic. It was very good only seemed to exist missing something to requite it a little more flavor. Will utilize this again. Thanks!
12/17/2008
My first pot roast! It came out a trivial tough i cooked on high for 4hrs, my mom-in-law says if on high i should have cooked for 3hrs but overall the taste was very good, anybody ate it all. thank you for a great recipe, def volition make again.
09/24/2013
This is a great recipe! With a few modifications of form. I like to braise my roast in some olive oil. I had a iii.5lb roast. I added ii cups of beef goop to the mix (I love the "Better than Bouillon" make, but I think the secret to the liquid is that I also like to add a tin of beer to it. Any beer in the fridge, doesn't really affair. I personally just used a Bud Light. As per other reviewers, I added my potatoes, onion and carrots in at the half mode betoken and saw no use cutting upwardly the carrots as they're small plenty and hands melt in the time that'southward left.
07/13/2010
This is pretty much the way I have always made pot roast. Only deviation is that I don't always brown information technology first. But I do put salt, pepper and flour all over the roast. This way, it makes it's own gravy and is never lumpy. I employ unlike seasonings - depending what I have on hand. I have used steak seasoning, seasoned salt, garlic salt, etc. They all work fine and are a thing of taste. I apply beef broth and beefy onion soup. For veggies I use potatoes (for boilerplate size potatoes, I quarter them, for large potatoes I cut them into half-dozen or seven pieces), two average size onions quartered and carrots (babe or regular). I employ lots of potatoes because DH and sons beloved them this way. This forth with some rolls is one of our favorite dinners. I melt on depression in the crock pot for virtually 10 hours while I am at work. The house smells sooooo gooooood when we come up home!
09/29/2010
I gave this 4 stars because I fabricated some changes. First, I simply used a 2 lb roast. I followed the advice of others and rubbed Montreal Steak Seasoning on information technology and browned it in a cast atomic number 26 skillet. I too substituted i loving cup beef broth for the water. When I came habitation from work, the house smelled incredible! Baked some crescent rolls and DH and were in heaven!
11/16/2010
I've made this pot roast 2 Sundays in a row. And I volition probably proceed making information technology every Sunday. And so, And then, GOOD. I used a boneless chuck roast. Vegetables and meat done to perfection. And so easy, and tasted so dandy. Thank y'all for a not bad recipe that I volition employ once again and again.
05/xix/2011
Tasty and tender. I seasoned with lots of Montreal Seasoning but I didn't recollect it was necessary to use beefiness goop as some suggested, and then I used 3/4 c. water and 1/4 c. red wine, and I will do the same next time. I left the skin on my small red whole potatoes and cut the carrots into largish chunks, and they were but correct after cooking all mean solar day on depression. I did leave out the celery and next time volition add more carrots. Thank you!
10/24/2013
I didn't get to attempt this but my beau RAVED nigh it. He said it was the best meal I accept fabricated- which saddens me slightly since information technology was and so easy to prepare. I took a few other comment's suggestions and added some Worchestire- and also browned the meat with garlic powder, McCormick steak seasoning, salt and pepper. And so threw everything into the crockpot and allow it cook for the 8 hours. Overall rating (from the swain)= AMAZING. Definitely a keeper.
02/19/2014
adequate.
x/18/2011
So yummy! The meat falls apart just like a perfec pot roast should. I followed other'southward advice and used Montreal Steak seasoning and am glad I did. I also subbed beef broth for the water. At that place is plenty juice in the pot after cooking to make gravy. Great recipe!
xi/17/2010
Mine turned out bang-up. The only reason I give four stars is because I changed it slightly. Instead of water I used beef goop, and I added a larger variety of veggies. I took a little of the broth when it was done and mixed in a little flour to make gravy. The roast was fall autonomously perfect and the gravy was awesome. I will make information technology once more with those small-scale changes.
10/02/2011
Instead of the onion soup mix, I added 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce to the broth and inserted i bay leafage into the roast, discarding the bay leaf before serving the roast. IMHO, the roast was even better- without those pesky onion $.25 from the soup mix in the broth.
08/27/2013
Will try this recipe this week! If the meat is banal, endeavour using a pocketknife to brand holes all over the roast and stuff with a whole clove of garlic in each forth with salt, pepper and any other dry seasoning you may similar. trust me the garlic gives great season!
ten/17/2010
I loved the flavor of this pot roast! I followed the recipe completely other than using beef broth instead of h2o to exist able to make delicious gravy at the end. I felt that 8 hours was the perfect time for this. Others have said to await to add the vegtables until half way through, simply I don't think they would accept been every bit good if I would accept done that. I used whole baby carrots, onions cut into fourths, and largely cubed russet potatoes. I thought they were the perfect texture with having simmered the unabridged time. Just a very little crunch but soft plenty to melt in your rima oris. I'd recommend calculation them at the beginning if yous like your veggies soft!
01/xviii/2008
FABULOUS!!! I doctored this upwards a bit by adding 4 cloves of chopped garlic to the slow cooker afterwards the meat, veggies and soup mix were in. I also used salt, pepper and season-all on the meat when I browned it in the skillet. I accept a five quart tedious cooker and used 5 pounds of chuck roast, 6 minor/medium red potatoes, a small purse of baby carrots, 3 celery stalks, about a 1/2 cup chopped onions and the garlic, . My irksome cooker was Full! I think the onion soup mix is what makes this sooooo adept! I let is cook on low for viii hours, but opened the boring cooker chapeau twice - and it came out FABULOUS!!! My family unit LOVED it and my married man even said this is meliorate than whatsoever he'due south had in a restaurant earlier. This is my new favorite slow cooker recipe and will be made many more times!! :)
09/19/2008
THE Best E'er!!!!!! The meat was then ridiculously tender!!! It literally melted in your mouth! I did marinate my meat overnight(in italian dressing) and I as well took the advice of previous reviewers with a few other changes: dissolve ii beef boullion cubes in the water before adding it in (you lot could use one can of beef broth for the same result), and add three cloves of garlic, chopped as well. I too added 1 tsp cayenne pepper to give it some kick. When it was done, I could barely keep my boyfriend out of the pot long enough to actually serve it up! Oh I tin't say plenty about this roast- it was THAT good! I will be reusing this recipe many many more times. Thanks sooo much Marie!
11/02/2008
Exactly what you call back of when yous think of pot roast. Just perfect! I lightly floured mine and and so browned it - this manner it made its ain gravy; no need to thicken the juices.
05/23/2010
Didn't demand ANY liquid in my irksome cooker for perfection. Cooked nine hours and had plenty of liquid when done. Don't add together carrots or potatoes until final hr or they'll go mushy. I similar turnips done this style.
01/xiii/2010
This was fantastic! Based on the other reviews, dipped the meat in a flour and season mixture before browning. One thing I similar about the recipe is that it is a everything simply the kitchen sink as far as seasoning goes. Any I had, I threw in to the flour mixture. I assembled everything the night earlier and threw information technology in the fridge. I cooked on high for an hour every bit shortly as I got upward in the morning and so switched it to low and cooked from viii-6. The meat and vegetables were out of this world. The potatoes were soft just not mushy just side by side time, I might omit them and serve over mashed potatoes. Will definitely make again.
